New assignments at Iran's suspended dailies Javan and Hambastegi

The Press Supervisory Board on Monday confirmed the appointments of the license-holder of Javan morning daily and the managing director of Hambastegi daily, who were under temporary suspension, IRNA reported from Tehran.

The license of Javan daily, earlier owned by Razmandegan-e Islam Cultural Artistic Institute has been ceded to Nashr-e Rouz Payamavaran Distribution Company.

At the meeting, Ali Salehabadi was proposed as the new managing director of Hambastegi daily by the Solidarity Party and the Press Supervisory Board confirmed his assignment.

Director General of Domestic Press Affairs, Mehrnoush Jafari told IRNA, "Given the confirmation of the assignments at Javan and Hambastegi dailies by the Press Supervisory Board, we hope that the court will revise the ruling on their suspension."

Javan was suspended on June 29 for being published without indicating the name of its license-holder and managing director, while Hambastegi was suspended temporarily on Sunday for not having a managing director.

Turning to the decisions of the supervisory board taken in accordance to Article 16 of the press law, Jafari said that in the meeting, the latest position of a number of periodicals were examined to see wether they complied with the article.

"Proper decisions were eventually taken either to extend their validity or cancel the license of others who failed to present enough justification for irregular publication," he added.

He called on their license-holders to take necessary measures to regularly publish their periodical within the specified legal deadline and continue the process regularly.
