Some 3,500 houses collapse across the quake-hit Fars province in Iran

Head of the rescue team of Iran's Red Crescent Society (IRCS), Bijan Daftari, said in Tehran on Monday that the earthquake which shook Fars province on July 10 destroyed over 3,500 residences in the area, IRNA reported.

On the sidelines of a fair on `Protection and Safety at Workplace and Home' Daftari told IRNA, that fortunately absence of people from their houses due to warm weather accounts for the low figure of the human loss, just 20 injuries.

He said, "The quake-hit people have been provided with housing and ICRS has prepared a monthly ration of sanitary products and foodstuff packed for five-member families."

Daftari added that severe water shortage is currently the main problem faced in the cities of Darab, Lar, Jahrom and specially Zarrin-Dasht in southern Fars province.

"The damaged areas suffered from drought before the earthquake shook them and though the water and electricity installations are in sound condition, shortage of water supply is still a major problem in the area," he added.

According to the latest report released at the inflicted areas, one individual is dead and 20 are injured.
