Iran's Information Ministry ordered to deal with 'rumor mongers' targeting Khamenei's office

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's office has ordered the Information (Intelligence) Ministry to identify and deal with those behind the claim that a fraction of income from the sale of cars in Iran was being funneled into his office, IRNA reported from Tehran.

"This type of lies and rumor mongering, aimed at inciting the public opinion and creating suspicion and divide between the people and state officials, are engineered by enemies and unfortunately certain sections of the press add voice to them," the office said in a statement, released late Monday.

"Thus, it is categorically announced that this rumor is a sheer lie and so far no money from the sale of domestically-produced or imported goods has been received by this office.

"The Supreme Leader has always stressed on the transparency of pricing and proper information dissemination and continues to do so," the office said in a part of the statement.

"Therefore, the officials are advised on proper and transparent dissemination of news with respect to the mechanisms of pricing.

"The Information Ministry and other related apparatus have also emphatically been asked to identify and legally deal with those elements who have engineered and spread this rumor with spiteful intentions," it added.

The statement concluded by saying "we are confident that the beloved Iranian people, by being vigilant, will neutralize the psychological war of the enemies and confront their intentions to make mischief".
