Biggest library in Middle East to open in Iran

The curator of the National Library and Archives and Islamic Encyclopedia, Kazem Mousavi Bojnourdi, said in Tehran Tuesday that a library, expected to be the biggest in the Middle East, is currently being constructed in Iran, IRNA reported.

He said that the library is being built on a 100,000-square-meter piece of land and will, hopefully, be inaugurated on February 11, 2004.

Bojnourdi said the library would contain millions of books that will meet the needs of scholars and researchers both in and out of the country.

He further said that a total of rls 330 billion has been allocated for the project.

He disclosed other plans of his office--to produce three encyclopedias in Persian, Arabic and English, a book on Iranian history, a general encyclopedia and hold the first-ever gathering of Iranian oral historians.
