Private firms ready to enter Iran's auto market

Applications by over 25 private companies seeking permission to establish automobile factories are currently in the final stages of assessment by relevant organizations, IRNA reported from Tehran on Thursday quoting `Iran Daily.'

According to the Head of the Industrial Development and Renovation Organization (IDRO) Reza Veiseh, neither IDRO nor the ministry of industries and mines have any reservations about issuing production permits raising the prospect for the active presence of the private sector in the auto industry in the very near future.

Quoting the official, the daily said that "the level of their success depends strictly on their own capabilities and performance."

Turning to joint auto production with foreign companies, Veiseh said an agreement has been signed with Malaysia's Proton company which will cooperate with Iran Khodro and Saipa-auto-manufacturers for designing a joint platform.

The IDRO head said a special committee is to submit within a month, a list of car makers to be authorized to import. "As soon as the list is completed, imports will get underway."

On the development of Azadegan oil field by domestic experts, Veiseh said Iranian oil firms meet all the technical and financial requirements for undertaking major projects in the oil and gas sectors.

"Related applications and documents have been forwarded to the Oil Ministry," he said , reiterating that the ministry, as the employer, will make the final decision.
