Iranian coach of Persepolis soccer team, Vahid Qelich, badly battered

Vahid Qelich, the goalkeeping coach of popular Iranian soccer team Persepolis, was badly battered by some 30 hooligans Sunday, IRNA reported from Tehran.

"Before the training started, some people who pretended to be Persepolis fans attacked me as they used foul language," said former national and Persepolis keeper adding "Police came to my defense and rescued me."

The bruised coach said, "I love Persepolis and do my best to help the team make success.

"The new technical committee invited me to cooperate and I agreed due to my great interest in this team but my decision has apparently annoyed some people."

Suffering from great pain in his head and neck, Qelich censured the attackers calling their act as unethical.

Recent reshuffle in Persepolis has been front-page headlines of Iranian sports dailies.

New managing director of Persepolis Akbar Ghamkhar replaced popular head coach Ali Parvin with Croat Vingo Begovic, appointed former player of Tehrani team Abbas Ashtiani as the head when veteran Mahmoud Khordbin parted company with the reds, and fired scores of players.
