"According to a plan approved by the High Administrative Council, the Telecommunications Company of Iran (TCI) will be turned into a mother company with three subdivisions," the official said.
The three subdivisions, to be formed once the plan is launched, will be named "mobile telecommunications", "data communications" and "infrastructure communications", he said.
The official added that the firms will be responsible for executive, design, installations, maintenance and procurement affairs in the telecommunications sector.
Motamedi said major executive operations will mainly be assigned to provincial firms, adding that these changes will facilitate the process of communications and information technology development.
"The old and traditional structure of both the PTT and TCI no longer meet the ever-growing demand of the society, more than ever necessitating the ministry keep up with advances in the telecommunications industry at the global level which is happening very rapidly."
The minister noted telecommunications and information technology affairs mainly comprise of three procedures; namely: policy-making, planning and implementation.
"The High Council of Information and Dissemination is in charge of laying the macro policies, while different organizations and ministries have to the present date been responsible for implementing the scheme," the daily quoted him as saying.
Motamedi said to put an end to parallel activities and operations, the Parliament, the Cabinet, the State Management and Planning Organization and the High Council of Cultural Revolution have approved the formation of the communications and information technology ministry to coordinate and implement related projects.
