"I respect Mr. Younesi, and thank him for his efforts to resolve many important and critical security issues as the minister of information. But if he fails to seriously follow up the issue of the claimed bribery, I will question him," Karroubi said at the opening remarks of the Parliament's session.
He was referring to the remarks by a high-profile cleric at a pre-sermon speech of Tehran Friday prayers on June 6 to the effect that certain officials have received as much as Dlrs 500 million from US officials.
Karroubi said raising such charges could have numerous impacts on the Iranian society, and said people should not become suspicious over the state of affairs of the country, particularly given that they are currently faced with economic woes.
"If any official has received money, it should be immediately announced. If not, it should be clearly publicized and I should also be informed about it," he said.
"This issue will have negative consequences in the society and the Judiciary must confront such stances that are against the expediency of the country."
