Five banks, 22 cars, 34 motorbikes damaged in student unrest

The head of the Iranian Police's Information Department, Ali-Asghar Mahaki, said in Tehran on Saturday that five banks, 22 cars and 34 motorbikes have been damaged during four days of student unrest from June 21-24, IRNA reported.

He further said that 60 people, including 32 law enforcement forces and 28 ordinary people, were wounded by stone-throwers.

The official said the police did their utmost to secure Tehran residents from further harm inflicted by rioters during these days of unrest.

Police says order restored to Tehran University dorm

Police announced on Sunday that order has been restored to the dormitory of Tehran University after several days of unrest, IRNA repoted from Tehran.

Ali-Asghar Mahaki, the director of Police Information Department, told IRNA that the police had been stationed in the dormitory upon the request of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, stressing that order has been restored there with the cooperation of the students.

Mahaki further said that seven persons who had been arrested in connection with the unrest were released after going through certain judicial procedures.

This, he added, made the students contented.
