Quake jolts Iranian towns of Firouzkouh and Damavand

An earthquake measuring 3.7 degrees on the open-ended Richter scale jolted the towns of Firouzkouh and Damavand in Tehran province early Monday, IRNA reported.

The seismological base of the Geophysics Institute, affiliated to Tehran University, said the tremor occurred at 04:48 hours local time (00:18 GMT).

There were no reports of any casualty or damage.

Since 1991, over 950 earthquakes have hit the country resulting in 17,600 deaths and 53,300 injuries.
