The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has called 2003 as the year commemorating the famous Russian-Armenian musician Khachaturian.
The Russian musician was born in Tbilisi on June 6, 1903 and passed away in Moscow at the age of 75.
The `Symphony of Colors', `Swords Dance' and `Fire Dance' and `Gayane Ballet' are among Khachaturian's most well-known musical works.
Concerto for Violin, Spartacus Suite, some pieces of Gayane Ballet and Mascarde Waltz are among the pieces Cheknovarian conducted in Los Angeles.
In addition to having conducted some musical pieces in last year's Tehran's Nations Music Festival, Cheknovarian has performed a number of Khachaturian's works.
The awarded badge was decorated with the image and name of the outstanding musician.
The Iranian conductor told IRNA, "I am greatly honored to receive Khachaturian badge as an Iranian."
Cheknovarian, was rehearsing with the members of Tehran Symphonic Orchestra on `Leili and Majnoun' symphony before leaving for the US to prepare them for its performance in early Summer.
