The Majlis on Sunday refused to rewrite
certain amendments it had devised to the Press Law, as demanded by the
Guardian Council (GC), and forwarded the bill to the Expediency
Council (EC) for arbitration, IRNA reported from Tehran on Monday quoting the press.
The English-language newspaper `Tehran Times' in its Majlis
Update column quoted MP Ali-Asghar She'rdoust as saying that the GC
had called for removal of an article of the bill that would allow
publishers to distribute their print media outside the geographical
boundaries in which they are licensed to work.
However, She'rdoust, who is the rapporteur of the Majlis Cultural
Commission, said that the commission had studied the GC request but
decided to insist on the amendment.
"Therefore, the bill was forwarded to the EC for arbitration," he
added.
