An earthquake with the intensity of 5.5
degrees on the Richter scale shook southeastern Iranian city of Iranshahr
in the Sistan Baluchestan province Tuesday, with no immediate report
of damage or probable casualties, IRNA reported.
The seismological bases of Tehran University's Geophysics
Institute recorded a tremor at 11:25 hours (06:55 GMT) to the north
of Iranshahr.
Iran sits on some of the world's active seismic faultlines and
tremors of mild magnitude are almost a daily occurrence.
Since 1991, at least 17,000 Iranians have died in earthquakes.
