Azerbaijan Defense Minister Safar A. Abiyev
saud said in Baku on Friday that he did not held any discussions with his US
counterpart on Iran on the sidelines of NATO session in Brussels, IRNA reported.
Speaking at the ceremonies marking the Azerbaijan army day, he
also added "Baku does not have any problems with Tehran."
He further said that Azerbaijan discussed some other issues with
the US and has reached some agreements.
He said the two countries have agreed on sending Azeri troops to
Iraq following clarification of the level of assistance by the US to
Baku.
Azeri Ambassador to Tehran Abbasali Karam Oglu Hasanov said last
week that the issue of the Caspian Sea should be settled by all
the littoral states.
The five littoral states: Islamic Republic of Iran, Azerbaijan,
Russia, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, are at odds over a new legal
regime for the Caspian Sea.
Speaking to reporters, he said the trend of negotiations between
Iran and Azerbaijan is friendly and brotherly and each side is
striving to solve the issue.
The recent trilateral agreements between Russia, Azerbaijan and
Kazakhstan does not mean that Tehran and Baku are at odds but the
signatories of the agreement have drawn-up a framework for themselves,
he said.
Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Russia calculated their shares in
proportion to the length of the five Caspian countries' coastlines,
giving Azerbaijan 18 percent, Russia 19 percent and Kazakhstan 27
percent.
