A court here on Sunday suspended the
Persian-language daily Javan (www.iran-javan.com/) for charges of spreading falsehoods and
not specifying the name of the publisher, IRNA reported from Tehran.
Branch Three of Public Prosecutor's Office in a letter to the
Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance said that the public
prosecutor and a complainant had filed a complaint against Javan for
the charges, and asked the ministry to stop the publication of the
daily.
The office said that it had summoned Javan's editor-in-chief who
had said that he was waiting for the Supervision Board on the Press
to issue a license for the daily.
The editor, the office added, has also said that a "Payam Avaran
Nashr Rooz" company is holding the publication right of the daily.
It further stressed that these contradict Articles 7 and 8 of the
Press Law, and therefore the daily must be stopped from publication.
Article 7 of the Press Law prohibits printing a publication
without mentioning the name of the publisher and the license-holder,
and also without specifying the whereabouts of the printing office
and the main office of the publication.
Under Article 8 of the law, leaving the publication right of a
print media to others is forbidden and is considered an offense unless
it is thus requested by the publisher and the request is approved by
the Supervision Board on the Press.
