In a letter read out at the formal session, the MPs called on the president to stop the unjust and unfair action being taken against the students by the disciplinary committees.
The Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) in a directive has excluded the activists in the universities from being brought to court of justice and instead entitled the disciplinary committees of Universities to deal with charges against the students.
The MPs said that the disciplinary committees of universities have exceeded the scope of their authority and handed down hefty sentences against activists including suspension for several semesters and banishment or expulsion.
The MPs said that the disciplinary committees are currently operating undemocratically and the students are being dealt in absence of the jury and that are not be given the chance to defend themselves against the charges.
The 125 signatories called on the president to assign the disciplinary committees to provide a democratic mechanism which provides the defendants with the counsel rights and form a jury for the disciplinary committees to stop violation of rights of the activists of the universities.
