The Iranian New Year, March 20, 2003
WHEREAS, I am pleased to commemorate Nowruz, the celebration of the Iranian New year and a time of great joy and festivity signifying rebirth and renewal in a community that is rich in culture and history; and
WHEREAS, as the first day of spring, this day celebrates the annual sowing of crops in anticipation of a bountiful harvest and serves as one of the most fascinating of the Persian festivals, rich in folkloric detail and symbolic traditions; and
WHEREAS, Nowruz also serves to remind our state and nation of the noteworthy and lasting contributions of the Iranian-American community and their dedication to the arts, sciences, medicine and many other important sectors of the Golden State and beyond and
WHEREAS, the Iranian-American community has survived many adversaries and continues to greatly contribute to California's economy, diversity and cultural splendor; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, that I, Cruz M. Bustamante, Lieutenant Governor of the Sate of California, do hereby recognize the celebration of Nowruz and encourage all Californians to join me in honoring the many contributions of the Iranian-American community.
