Twelve people were killed and 17 others injured Friday morning after two buses collided head-on on the road which links the northeastern city of Birjand to Zahedan in southeast Iran, IRNA reported.
The accident occurred 45 km from Birjand on a narrow and slippery road when one of the buses swerved suddenly into the lane of the oncoming bus, the city's police head said.
The injured were taken to hospital in Birjand.
Narrow roads in Birjand are the cause of regular car crashes, which lead to many loss of lives and injuries.
Fatalities of double digit are not rare in Iran where police blame most of the accidents on careless driving and dilapidated cars.
