Quakes shake southern Iranian city
An earthquake measuring 3.2 degrees on the
open-ended Richter scale jolted the southern city of Larestan on
Sunday morning, IRNA reported from Shiraz.
The seismological base of the Geophysics Institute, affiliated
to Tehran University, said the tremor, with its epicenter 270
kilometers south of the city of Shiraz, occurred at 09:18 hours local
time (04.48 GMT).
Meanwhile, two other earthquakes measuring 3.3 and 3.5 degrees on
the open-ended Richter scale also shook the city at 20:40 hours local
time (16.10 GMT) and 23:08 hours (18,38 GMT), respectively.
There were no reports of casualties or damage.
Since 1991, over 950 earthquakes have hit the country resulting in
17,600 deaths and 53,300 injuries.
Quakes shake Razan, Esfarayen cities
An earthquake with an intensity of 3.5
degrees on the open-ended Richter scale shook the city of Razan,
south of Qazvin province, on Sunday, IRNA reported.
The seismological base of the Geophysics Institute affiliated
to Tehran University registered the quake at 08:46 hours local time
(04.16 GMT).
Meanwhile, another earthquake measuring 3 degrees on the Richter
scale jolted Esfarayen city, in the northeastern province of Khorasan,
on Sunday.
The seismological base of the Geophysics Institute affiliated to
Tehran University said the tremor, with its epicenter 240 kilometers
northwest of Mashhad, occurred at 07:35 hours local time.
There were no immediate reports of probable damage or casualties
caused by the two quakes.
Iran sits on some of the world's active seismic faultlines and
tremors of a mild magnitude are almost a daily occurrence.
Since 1991, at least 17,000 Iranians have died as a result of
earthquakes.
Quake jolts city of Semnan
An earthquake measuring 3.5 degrees on the
open-ended Richter scale jolted the northeastern city of Semnan on
Sunday morning, IRNA reported.
The seismological base of the Geophysics Institute, affiliated
to Tehran University, said the tremor, epicentered in an area east
of the city of Semnan, occurred at 05:01 hours local time (0031 GMT).
There were no reports of casualties or damage.
Since 1991, over 950 earthquakes have hit the country resulting in
17,600 deaths and 53,300 injuries.
