The foreign ministers and heads of delegations
attending the 30th meeting of the Organization of Islamic Conference
(OIC) in Tehran on Thursday continue dialogues on matters of general
interest, IRNA reported.
According to the latest reports, the attending delegations will
examine the drafts of the statement to be released at the conclusion
of the current conference.
The OIC meeting dubbed `Dignity, Unity', which opened in Tehran
on Wednesday, is attended by the quadruple committees.
The committees specialized in political, cultural, administrative,
financial/economic, social and scientific affairs held various
sessions on the first day of the conference.
In today's session, the OIC member states foreign ministers will
discuss various issues including Qods and Palestine, Iraq,
disarmament, Muslim minorities in OIC non-member countries,
international anti-terrorism campaign and presenting an optimal
feature of Islam.
Meanwhile, the attending delegations are invited to a reception
arranged by President Mohammad Khatami.
The OIC annual foreign ministers meeting, which opened on
Wednesday with President Khatami's inaugural speech, stands second to
OIC heads of states summit.
In the first day of the Islamic conference, the message of the
OIC's present rotating chairman, Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa
al-Thani, was read to the attendants and representatives from the
African, Asian and Arabic states delivered speeches.
Sudanese representative, as the former chairman of OIC foreign
ministers meeting, OIC secretary general, Arab league secretary
general, South African foreign minister and the secretary general of
the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council also delivered speeches at the
Wednesday session.
The first and 29th OIC ministers meeting were held in Jeddah in
1971 and the Sudanese capital city of Khartoum in 2002 respectively.
The Jeddah-based OIC, the largest international organization after
the United Nations was founded by the Islamic states in 1969.
Qatar is the current rotating chairman of the OIC and Malaysia
will be the next chairman of the organization.
