An earthquake measuring 3.1 degrees on the
open-ended Richter scale jolted the city of Bafq in the central
province of Yazd on Saturday, IRNA reported.
The seismological base of the Geophysics Institute,
affiliated to Tehran University, said the tremor, with its epicenter
registered at 40 kilometers northeast of the city of Shadkam of Bafq,
occurred at 12:46 hours local time (08:16 GMT).
There were no reports of casualties or damage.
Since 1991, over 950 earthquakes have hit the country resulting in
17,600 deaths and 53,300 injuries.
