Secretary of the eighth international rural film festival, Zolfaqar Qassemi, said in Tehran on Tuesday that 62 states have been invited to participate in the upcoming festival scheduled to open on December 25, IRNA reported.
He told IRNA that the eighth international rural film festival will be held concurrent with the 17th national village festival in Tehran.
"Four international bodies including the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the UN Development Program (UNDP) have also been invited to attend the event," he added.
He noted that so long, Brazil and FAO have declared their readiness to attend the upcoming festival by sending two films each. The official hoped that given the correspondence conducted to the effect, there will be a remarkable boost in the number of the films and the countries attending this year's festival.
"Some 48 films from eight countries and international organizations were screened in the competition section of the 7th Rural Films Festival last year.
"Around 1,350 national and foreign works were present in last year's festival in various sections consisting of film, film scripts, photography, radio and television programs and theater," he added.
For the first time, a section titled 'Agricultural and Rural Press' is to be presented in the course of the two upcoming festivals, which are jointly titled 'village, media, development'. The best published and produced materials concerning 'village and agriculture' will be introduced during the two festivals.
The national village festival is being arranged jointly by the Ministry of Agricultural Jihad, Agricultural Products Insurance Fund, Iran's Agricultural Bank, Iran's Joint Stock Milk Industries Company and Iran's Dairy Products Union.
