Thirty-four people were killed and 10 others injured after a passenger bus and a truck collided on the Yazd-Tabas road Saturday night, IRNA reported.
The injured, some of them said to be in critical situation, were taken to local hospitals in the cities of Tabas and Yazd.
Police blamed the accident on the recklessness of the bus driver who suddenly swerved to the left.
Iran has one of the highest rates of road accidents in the world. At least 21,000 people are killed on Iran's roads every year. Transport experts blame most of the accidents on hazardous roads and reckless driving.
