Association of Iranian Journalists (AIJ) on Sunday called on Tehran Public Prosecutor Saeed Mortazavi to give them access to journalists under arrest, IRNA reported.
In an open letter to Mortazavi, the AIJ challenged the prosecutor's statement to UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Opinion and Expression Ambeyi Ligabo that "The doors of the prisons are open for the national and international representatives."
"The AIJ, the only organ advocating freedom of the journalists had earlier asked to visit the journalists under detention and it renews its request for that effect," the statement said.
"We hope that the respectful officials of the Judiciary will not discriminate between the national and the international representatives in authorizing access to the prisoners," it said.
