First autumn snowfall in northern, eastern and western Iran

The first snowfall in mid-fall starting on Friday spread a blanket of white over the provinces of Kurdestan and Ardebil, IRNA reported from Tehran.

In Kermanshah and Khorrasan people witnessed torrential rains, sporadic thunder and lightning as well as winds. The heaviest rainfall measuring 76 mms happened in the city of Paveh in Kermanashah province, while Kangavar with 4mms witnessed the least amount of rain.

The city of Ardebil was covered by 10 cms of snow which started falling in early Friday morning and was accompanied with rather gustly and cold wind.

Snowfall in the city of Malekan in East Azarbaijan province started early morning on Friday and its height at the surrounding mountains has reached 15 cms.

The untimely snow at this season has not only taken the people by surprise, but has made the farmers and gardners feel sorry that they have failed to harvest in time.

The city of Malekan to the south of province has a population of 100,000 people.

On the last days of the second month of autumn, the mountains overlooking the cities of Bojnourd, Shirvan and Esfarayen were covered by snow.

On Saturday noon snowfall started in Bojnourd, while heavy snow in Assadli and Badranloui gorges still continues pouring down.

In the city of Zanjan located in Iran's central desert area and measuring 22,039 kms, snowfall started on Friday afternoon and the temperature fell by 13 degrees compared to the previous day.
