Two earthquakes measuring 4.9 and 4.2 degrees on the open-ended Richter scale shook the Zirkoh of Qayen and Darmian of Birjand in Khorasan province on Monday, IRNA reported.
The seismological base of the Geophysics Institute, affiliated to Tehran University, said the quakes, epicentered in an area 340 km southeast of Mashhad, occurred at 14:21 and 15:04 hours local time (10:51 and 11:34 GMT).
There were no reports of casualty or damage caused by the quakes.
Iran is situated on some of the world's most active seismic fault lines and quakes of varying magnitudes are of usual occurrence.
