Quake shakes Iran's northeastern town of Bojnourd

An earthquake measuring 4.9 degree on the open-ended Richter scale jolted the town of Bojnourd in the northeastern province of Khorassan on Tuesday, IRNA reported.

The seismological base of the Geophysics Institute, affiliated to the Tehran University, said the tremors, epicentered in an area 220 km northeast of the provincial capital city of Mashhad, occurred at 09:07 hours local time (0537 GMT).

Governor of Bojnourd Ali Khosravi said there were no reports of any casualty or damage caused by the quake.

Iran is situated on some of the world's most active seismic fault lines and quakes of varying magnitudes are of usual occurrence.
