Belgian police prevented the Iranian karateka from entering the country Thursday, forcing them to return home, IRNA reported from Tehran.
Accomapnying the martial art players, kyokushin head of southern Fars Province said the team was to participate in the world event which started Saturday but the police in the airport of Brussels did not allow it to enter the Belgian soil although all had visas.
Ahmad Farhadi added the police were seeking different excuses like lack of invitation and currency but the two cases were settled in the airport.
"We expect the Iranian Embassy in Belgium to cooperate with the team but it did not," said the provincial official.
Talking to IRNA, president of Iran's Karate Federation said, "We wonder why the karatekas were treated like this," adding "The related officials and I wrote a letter annexed with a report to the Embassy of Belgium, asking for its explanation."
Mohammad Nazerian added the documents and visas of the Iranian team were complete.
