Iran beats Lebanon 3-0 in Preliminary Asian Cup Football to advance to finals

The Iranian and Lebanese national football teams' competition Wednesday in the framework of the Preliminary Asian Cup Football ended at Beirut Football stadium 3-0 in favor of Iran, IRNA reported.

The game's goals were scored by striker Ali Daei from the penalty spot in the 40th minute of the first half, and Yahya Gol-Mohammadi and Ali-Reza Vahedi-Nikbakht, both on header shots, in the 15th and 37th minutes of the second half.

Three of Iranian players, Moharram Navidi-Kia Mehdi Mahdavi-Kia, and Ali-Reza Vahedi-Nikbakht were shown the referee's yellow card during the qualifier game.

During the second half of the game Ali-Reza Nikbakht substituted Moharram Navidi-Kia and Iman Mob'ali replaced Ali Karimi in the Iranian team.

Winning the game played against Lebanon, the Iranian national team's points reached 9 in the framework of the Preliminary Asian Football Competitions, that is actually to be regarded as 12, including the 3 points due from the controversial, unfinished Iran-North Korea match in Tehran.

The return match with Lebanon is due to be played in the football stadium of Tehran's Azadi Sports Complex on Friday November 28.

Uzbekistan, Iran, Qatar advance to Asian Cup finals

Uzbekistan, Iran, and Qatar booked spots in the 13th Asian Cup finals in China Wednesday.

Uzbekistan edged Hong Kong 1-0 in Bangkok where the host Thailand boosted its qualifying chance by a 1-0 victory over Tajikistan on Nov 19.

Powered by its internationals, Iran hammered the Lebanese side 3-0 in Beirut, storming into the finals.

Qatar rolled to the 2004 finals as Syed Bashir and Mubarak Mustafa slotted home in the 10th and 28th minutes, giving visitor Singapore a 2-0 defeat in Doha.
