A strong earthquake with an intensity of 5.1 degrees on the Richter scale jolted the city of Jahrom in the southern province of Fars early Saturday, IRNA reported from Tehran.
The seismological base of the Geophysics Institute, affiliated to the Tehran University, said the tremor, epicentered in an area southeast of the city, occurred at 02:49 hours local time (2319 GMT Friday).
There were no reports of any casualty or damage caused by the quake.
Iran is situated on some of the world's most active seismic fault lines and quakes of varying magnitudes are of usual occurrence.
