Quake jolts Fars province again

An earthquake, measuring 4.9 degrees on the open-ended Richter scale, shook the vicinity of Kazeroun city in the southern province of Fars early Saturday, IRNA reported.

The Fars Seismological Base, affiliated to Tehran University's Geophysics Institute, put the epicenter of the tremor in the vicinity of Kazeroun, and said it occurred at 04:14 hours local time. There were no reports of any casualty or damage caused by the quake.

Several tremors have jolted regions near Kazeroun and the provincial capital of Shiraz in Fars province during the past few days.

Iran is situated on some of the world's most active seismic faultlines and quakes of varying magnitude are of usual occurrence.

Quake jolts southwestern Iranian city of Dehdasht

An earthquake, measuring 3.7 degrees on the open-ended Richter scale, shook the city of Dehdasht in the southwestern province of Kohkilouyeh and Boyerahmad Friday night.

The seismological base of the Geophysics Institute, affiliated to Tehran University, said the tremor, with its epicenter at 50 km northeast of Dehdasht, occurred at 20:06 hours local time (1636 GMT). There were no reports of any casualty or damage caused by the quake.

Iran is situated on some of the world's most active seismic faultlines and quakes of varying magnitude are of usual occurrence.
