Quake jolts several Iranian cities


A tremor, measuring 3.6 degrees on the open-ended Richter scale, shook the vicinity of Jahrom city in the southern province of Fars Tuesday afternoon, IRNA reported.

The Fars province Seismological Base, affiliated to Tehran University's Geophysics Institute, registered the epicenter of the tremor in Jahrom, and said it occurred at 14:34 hours local time There are no reports of any casualty or damage caused by the quake.

Several tremors have jolted regions near Kazeroun and the provincial capital of Shiraz in Fars province during the past few days.

Another earthquake measuring 3.9 degrees on the Richter scale shook the cities of Masjed Soleyman and Farsan in the southwestern province of Khuzestan on Tuesday.

The seismological base of the Geophysics Institute affiliated to Tehran University said the tremor, epicentered in an area 50 km northwest of Farsan and 80 km northeast of Masjed Soleyman, occurred at 08:51 hours local time (0521 GMT).

There were no reports of any casualty or damage caused by the quakes.

Iran is situated on some of the world's most active seismic fault lines and quakes of varying magnitudes are of usual occurrences.
