Iran's Minister of Posts, Telegraphes and Telephones and French Minister of Industry Nicole Fontaine on Friday in Paris discussed mutual cooperation, expansion of telecommunications ties and investment in this sector, IRNA reported.
At the meeting, Motamedi called for the expansion of Tehran-Paris ties in the field of telecommunications.
He referred to developments in Iran's telecommunications and technology and expressed Tehran's readiness to cooperate with foreign companies in this regard.
Fontaine, in response, said that Paris is ready to cooperate with Iran to expand mutual industrial and telecommunications ties. The French minister is scheduled to pay a visit to Iran in the near future to hold talks with senior Iranian officials.
Meanwhile, Motamedi told IRNA that Iran attaches importance to foreign investment in the telecommunications field.
He said privatization of and foreign investment in the country's telecommunications sector are among issues raised in the Third Five-Year Economic-Development Plan, adding that this requires more contact with foreign partners.
He mentioned that France enjoys a high status from the viewpoint of telecommunications, adding that the more international companies participate in Iran's markets and tenders, the better competitions would be conducted.
The minister said that the second mobile phone operator tender would be carried out in Iran in the near future and reputable French companies can take part in the event with the cooperation of domestic private sector.
