EU's foreign and security policy chief Javier Solana on Tuesday voiced his happiness in a first reaction to the news from Tehran that the Islamic Republic had decided to sign the additional protocol to the NPT, IRNA reported from Brussels.
"We are extremely pleased. It is very good news we are receiving from Tehran," Solana's spokeswoman, Cristina Gallach, told IRNA. "It is a very important step from Iran It will pave the way for two things, defusing the EU-Iran crisis which was looming on the horizon, and secondly it opens the way for stronger relations with Iran in all the fields economy, trade cooperation and political," she added.
European Commission spokesman for external relations, Diegos de Ojeda said, "We are looking at the news with a positive impression. "This seems to be a very good step to the fulfillment of our objectives as key to our developments of relations with Iran," he told IRNA.
"If and when the news is confirmed it will very much have a positive impact across the board on ties with Iran," said de Ojeda. He added, "We are looking forward to hearing from IAEA that Iran is fully cooperating with its conditions."
