Iran government active in the case of filmmakers arrested by US forces in Iraq

Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Ahmad Masjed Jamei said on Monday that the government is actively following up the case of two Iranian documentary filmmakers arrested in Iraq by US forces, IRNA reported from Tehran.

Masjed Jamei, in a meeting with families of the two Iranian documentary filmmakers, stressed the government`s determination to continue probe into the case.

"The government is active and sensitive to this effect and a committee comprising of a number of ministers have been set up on the order of President Mohammad Khatami to investigate the issue," Masjed Jamei said.

Soheil Karimi and Saeed Aboutaleb, employees of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), were arrested by US forces on July 1 while filming in southern Iraq.

He pointed to the US violence and discrimination against reporters and its performance against free information circulation and said, "The US forces do not treat properly those reporters who do not work in line with US information dissemination policy, and their performance on recent events is a clear evidence in this regard."
