A mild earthquake measuring 3.9 degrees on the open-ended Richter scale jolted the city of Esfarayen in north of the northeastern Khorassan province on Monday, IRNA reported.
The Khorassan Seismological Base, affiliated to Tehran University`s Geophysics Institute put the epicenter of the tremor at 200 km northwest of Mashhad, the capital city of Khorassan province, and said it occurred at 23:51 hours local time.
There is no report on probable damage caused by the quake. Iran is situated on some of the world`s most active seismic faultlines and quakes of varying magnitude are of usual occurrence.
