Seminar: "Discourse of Overseas Iranian Youth" (December 23-24, 2003 in Tehran)

In the Name of the Teacher of Contemplation

Following the first conference of "The Discourse of Iranians" in July 2000 in Tehran, this department is pleased to announce a scientific-specialized seminar, titled "Discourse of Overseas Iranian Youth", in Tehran on December 23-24, 2003.

All overseas, educated Iranian youth, scholars, researchers and experts are invited to send their invaluable composition, portraying their experiences, scientific findings, and viewpoints around the following topics.

Interested scholars are requested to send their articles not later than November 6, 2003.

         Authors of twenty selected articles sent from abroad will be invited to Iran for five days to participate in the conference "The Discourse of Overseas Iranian Youth" and present their articles amongst fellow peers and Iranian scholars. (The Dept. of Social Affairs will provide all room, board, and roundtrip transportation)

  • Selected articles will be published in the proceeding of the seminar.
  • Authors of the articles are requested to send abstracts of their articles and their resume (including information about their education, research, teaching, cultural works, scientific works, and other published articles).
  • Articles must be either in English or Farsi.

Scientific Seminar on The Discourse of Overseas Iranian Youth

The main objectives of this seminar are:

         Identification and analysis of the main intellectual/cultural problems of the Overseas Iranian Youth;

  • Identification of their viewpoints and ideas;
  • Exploring appropriate strategies to strengthen ties between the youth and their native culture/motherland,
  • Exploring the reasons for immigration of Iranian elite.

The main subjects of the seminar and proposed topics for the articles:

1. Cultural and social characteristics and problems of the Iranian youth:

         General characteristics and features of the non-resident Iranian youth;

  • Cultural needs, problems and difficulties of the youth;
  • Iranian youth and their interaction with the host society;
  • The ways of consolidation of ties among the Iranian generations residing abroad.

2. The youth and the ways of promoting Iranian culture:

         Persian language and the hurdles in the way of its learning;

  • Attractions and repulsive aspects of the Iranian culture for the youth;
  • Cultural differences and interactions, and preservation of the culture of motherland (Iran);
  • Role of family in the transferring of values, including cultural and religious heritages, to their children;
  • The Iranian youth residing overseas and their tendencies toward religious and spiritual values and principles;
  • Appropriate ways to deepen the recognition of Iranian culture, history and civilization.

3. Factors responsible for strengthening or weakening the connection between
youth and their motherland:

         Grounds and expectations of the youth to participate in the development of their country;

  • Role of the youth in introducing and defending national and religious interests and values;
  • Political, social and economic hurdles in developing relations between the youth and their motherland.

4. Expectations from the youth generation on religious and national institutions
of Iran and families:

         Successful cultural programs from the viewpoint of the youth inside and outside of Iran;

  • Successful cultural programs of the host country form the viewpoint of the youth;
  • Expectations of the youth from the cultural, religious, and political organizations to develop the country and to help them to become more familiar with the Iranian culture;
  • Expectations of the youth from their families

5. Immigration of experts and the elite:

         The condition and cultural, social and economic reasons of the immigration of Iranian experts and the elite;

  • Appropriate ways of balancing the immigration of the elite (the role of government, cultural and educational institutes and private sector);
  • Appropriate ways of attracting Iranian experts residing abroad to cooperate.
