A mild earthquake measuring 4.5 degrees on the open-ended Richter scale jolted the Nehbandan Township in south of Iran's northeaster Khorassan province on Wednesday morning, IRNA reported.
The Khorassan Seismological Base, affiliated to Tehran University`s Geophysics Institute put the epicenter of the tremor at the vicinity of Nehbandan city, the capital city a township of the same name in the south of the province, and said it occurred at 04:01 hours local time(23:36 GMT).
There is still no report available on the probable damage or casualties caused by the quake.
Iran is situated on some of the world`s most active seismic faultlines and quakes of varying magnitude are of usual occurrence.
