At least 30 people lost their lives and one seriously injured in a fatal road accident in northwestern Iran on Thursday when a passenger bus collided with a truck on the Miyaneh-Zanjan road, IRNA reported from Tabriz, East Azarbaijan province.
According to provincial traffic police, the accident occurred between the towns of Zanjan and Miyaneh in East Azarbaijan province.
The bus deviated into the path of the truck while a gas canister explosion set both vehicles on fire, announced the traffic police. The injured was immediately transferred to the nearest hospital for emergency medical care.
This is the most serious road accident in the current year, the report pointed out.
Road accidents in Iran are blamed on poor roads, non-observance of traffic regulations by drivers as well as dilapidated cars.
