A mild earthquake, measuring 4.4 degrees on the open-ended Richter scale, jolted the city of Jahrom in south of the southern Fars province on Friday, IRNA reported from Shiraz.
The Fars Seismological Base, affiliated to Tehran University`s Geophysics Institute, put the epicenter of the tremor at 235 km southeast of Jahrom, and said it occurred at 00:01 hour local time. There is no report on probable damage caused by the quake.
Iran is situated on some of the world`s most active seismic faultlines and quakes of varying magnitude are of usual occurrence.
