Construction of the highest Communications Tower is underway in Tehran at a cost of rls 750 billion, IRNA reported.
Executive company official Mohammad Reza Moqeisseh said that construction of the ceiling of the tower will be completed by the end of the Iranian year 1383 (March 2005).
He said that the ceiling of the 435-meter high tower, the fourth in the world, will be lifted from the ground by the special elevator which is capable of raising 700 tons to the top.
He said that rls 275 billion has so far been spent on the project. Information and Communications Center will be operational by the Iranian year 1385 (March 2006-2007).
The Communications Tower called `Milad Tower` named after birthday of the Lord of the Time Imam Mehdi will cover over 95 percent of Tehran for communications services.
An International Conference amphitheater will also be built in the compound of Milad Tower at a cost of rls 210 billion. Rls 75 billion of the budget has been spent on the conference hall with a 1,600-seat capacity.
A five-star hotel will be built in the compound at a cost of rls 500 billion in addition to 216,000 square meters Center for Electronic Trade in 12-storey by the end of the year 1385 (March 2007).
The Tower can withstand earthquakes of the magnitude of 7.5 degrees on the Richter scale.
