Iran is to present its 16th request for joining the World Trade Organization during October 23-November 21, Head of Iran's plenipotentiary trade representative Esfandiar Omidbakhsh said on Saturday, IRNA reported from Tehran.
Expressing hesitation over the result, he referred to political pressures and the influence of the United States as the main reasons behind rejecting Iran's membership so far.
"Given the US stance and current situation, it is very likely that Iran's WTO bid will be rejected again," he stressed. Besides acceptance or non-acceptance of Iran's membership request, he said, holding negotiations over the issue which is being carried out by Iran's plenipotentiary trade representative is of great importance.
Due to the current situations, the country's membership to the organization will not be materialized by at least ten years, Omidbakhsh predicted.
He further stressed the need for providing appropriate conditions to guarantee Iran's national interests in WTO membership.
