Iran failed to book a berth in the
semifinals of the 22nd Asian Nations Cup as it lost to the Qatari
basketball side in Harbin, China on Sunday night, IRNA reported.
With nine foreign-turned-Qatari players, the Arab side managed
to defeat Iran 72-64 in the quarterfinal.
The loss handed Iran a match against Japan for the fifth title
Tuesday.
In its first clash Tuesday, Iran at last defeated Taiwan. Iran,
which had lost all matches to the Taiwanese managed to win 84-73.
On September 24, Iran overcame the Syrian side 82-67 in a
second-day match of the 22nd edition.
China's basketball team overpowered Iran 93-69 Thursday to top
Group C.
Iran was grouped with South Korea, Kazakhstan, and Qatar in the
second round.
South Korea defeated Iran's basketball team in their second-round
opening match Friday. Iran lost to its powerful opponent 105-81 but
it defeated Kazakhstan 92-85.
