Iran finished runner-up to the undisputed
champion South Korea at the 16th World Taekwondo Championships (WTC)
ended in Garmisch Partenkirchen, Germany on Sunday, IRNA reported.
Two golds, two silvers, and one bronze gave Iran 62 points and
the second title in the most prestigious taekwondo event while South
Korea celebrated the title for the 16th consecutive time with three
gold and two bronze medals, handing it 67 points.
The third title went to Taiwan, which collected two gold and one
bronze medals and 46 points and the United States finished fourth as
it bagged one gold and two bronzes and 46 points.
The Republic of Azerbaijan ranked fifth with an asset of four
bronze medals and 36 points.
The two golds of Iran were grabbed by Youssef Karami and Morteza
Rostami in the seventh and eighth weights while Behzad Khodadad and
Hadi Saei snatched two silvers in the second and fifth weights and
the sole bronze of the country was won by Omid Gholamzadeh in the
third weight category.
The Iranian team will return home Wednesday.
