Iran finished runner-up in an international
women's volleyball tournament ended in Doha, capital of Qatar, Monday, IRNA
reported.
Representing the country in Solidarity Cup, the Islamic Azad
University (IAU) lost to the final Syria 3-2, standing second.
The host side ranked third as it thrashed the United Arab Emirates
3-0.
In its first match, the IAU's team was beaten by Syria 3-1. The
collegiate side demolished Sudan 3-0 and booked a berth in the second
round as the second team of Group A.
Representative of Iran handed Qatar a 3-0 humiliating defeat,
rolling into final.
The technical committee announced Iranian player Zeinab Givei
"Player of the Solidarity Cup".
Six teams of Sudan, Islamic Azad University, Syria, the UAE,
Afghanistan, and Qatar competed in the eight-day women's volleyball
competitions, which started on September 20.
