Moscow, April 2, IRNA -- The first Tehran-Berlin cargo train is to become operational within the framework of the North-South road in August, 2004.
A report released by the media department of Russia's Railway Company here Friday, quoting head of the Russian Railways Company Gennadi Fadeyev who was leaving for Germany said that the first trip will be ceremonial.
"The train will transfer containerized cargo from Berlin to the Iranian capital of Tehran through Russia on a continuous basis," added the report.
The negotiations between Fadeyev and his Iranian counterpart during his two-day (April 6-7) visit to Tehran will focus on preparing the Iranian section of the North-South railway line.
During the visit, the two sides are also expected to examine the prospect of Russia's participation in Iran's railway projects.
Meanwhile, Iran is to ink a long-term cooperation agreement in the field with Russia, which would affect the current trend of transfer of oil and its by-products in the region.
