Tehran, April 8, IRNA -- Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi here Wednesday expressed hope Iran's peaceful nuclear case would be settled by June.
In a telephone conversation with his German counterpart Joschka Fischer, the two sides discussed the latest developments in Iraq and the outcomes of the recent visit to Iran of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) chief Mohamed ElBaradei.
"With respect to the transparent and broad cooperation of Tehran with the IAEA, the Iranian Public opinion expects that Iran's peaceful nuclear case be settled by June and the European Union and the IAEA fulfill their commitments toward Iran," Kharrazi said. Kharrazi termed the outcomes of ElBaradei's visit to Tehran as "fruitful".
Referring to developments in Iraq, he said the Iraqi people are living in a critical condition and great number of defenseless people have been massacred in various parts of the country. This runs counter to the responsibilities of the occupiers in establishing security and peace in the country.
The incorrect approaches of the United States in dealing with the complexities in Iraq has fanned the flames of current crisis, he said.
Settlement of the crisis requires self-restraint and avoidance of using force and violence in dealing with the legitimate demands of the Iraqi people, Kharrazi stressed.
The Iranian minister expressed concern that continuation of violent approaches would inflict further damage on the Iraqi nation.
Kharrazi called for speedy withdrawal of the occupying forces from Iraq and safeguarding security for the people in that country.
Fischer, also, described the situation in Iraq as critical and expressed hope the current crisis in the country would be tackled through presence and activities of Iraq's Shia ulema and that peace would be restored to Iraqi cities.
He assessed as important the outcomes of ElBaradei's visit to Tehran and hoped Iran's transparent and all-out cooperation with the agency would pave the way for consolidation of bilateral cooperation.
IAEA chief Mohamed ElBaradei arrived in Tehran Tuesday morning on a one-day visit to discuss Iran-IAEA nuclear cooperation with senior Iranian officials.
