Iran's Parliament (Majlis) on Wednesday rejected the resignation of Isfahan MP Rajabali Mazrouei, IRNA reported from Tehran.
Out of 194 MPs present at the session, a total of 174 deputies cast their votes.
Mazrouei's resignation was rejected by a vote of 92 in favor of resignation (falling short of the 98 votes needed) and 77 against with 5 abstentions.
20 deputies did not take part in the voting. Majlis had already accepted resignations of Tehran MPs Fatemeh Haqiqatjou and Mohsen Armin as well as Orumiyeh MP Mir Mahmoud Yeganli.
One hundred and eight MPs tendered their resignations to Majlis Speaker Mehdi Karroubi on February 1 in protest to the mass disqualification of nominees wanting to stand in the 7th Majlis election.
As per Article 92 of the Majlis by-laws, any Majlis deputy can resign from his/her post, but the resignation becomes effective only after acceptance by the Majlis.
However, Article 95 of the same by-laws provides that if the offer to resign by any MP results in the Majlis failing to reach a quorum, the offer cannot be passed by Majlis.
