Rome, April 16, IRNA -- Italian Deputy Prime Minister Jiovanni Letta in a meeting with Iran's Ambassador to Rome Bahram Qassemi said Iran and Italy have potentials for bolstering mutual relations and are keen on broadening cooperation in various fields.
The Italian senior official expressed pleasure over boosting bilateral ties and the growing trend in this respect. He also reiterated the need to make plans for optimum use of capabilities.
He said that Iran's role in promotion of regional peace and stability is of high importance.
For his part, Qassemi referred to the continuous expansion of economic ties between the two countries and underlined Iran's interest in further bolstering cooperation in various sectors including politics, economy and culture.
The Iranian diplomat thanked the Letta's role in providing aid to the victims of Bam devastating earthquake, as the coordinator of Italy's relief operation.
Iran-Italy trade exchange in the last year with 4.6 percent boost over 2002 stood at 3.852 billion euros.
About 1.899 billion euros worth of various Iranian products were exported to Italy in the past year and the products imported to Iran from Italy cost 1.953 billion euros.
