Arvandkenar, Khouzestan Prov, April 20, IRNA -- Iraqi bandits fired an RPG on an Iranian passenger ship in Arvandkenar waterway on Monday, inflicting heavy damage.
Governor of Arvandkenar Hassan Alidoost told IRNA here on Tuesday that 'Negin', with more than 100 passengers aboard, was en route from Kuwait to provincial city of Khorramshahr, when was targeted by an RPG, fired from the west bank of Arvandkenar on Monday night.
Alidoost said the Iraqi bandits had stopped the Iranian ship, looting its properties and demanding ransom from the Iranian and Kuwaiti passengers.
No report is yet available on number of those injured.
The Iranian official said that the insecurity caused by the Iraqis in the free shipping lines in Arvandkenar can jeopardize security in the entire region.
Border guards have reportedly adopted security arrangements since Tuesday to prevent eruption of similar incidents in the region.
